This is the story of the most important event that has ever taken place in history, and about the most important decision everyone makes, one way or the other, including you….

Where are you going?

The Story

Below you will see 52 sentences.  These words are verses from a book called the Bible, also called the Word of God. You see….

*God is Sovereign, meaning he is the ultimate supreme authority.  (read Jeremiah 32:17)

*Everything and everyone was created by God and for God. (read Colossians 1:16)

*There is only one true God, apart from him there is no other.  (read Isaiah 44:6)

*God is the light, in him there is no darkness at all.  (read 1 John 1:5)

God is perfection.  The problem is we are not.

God gave us freewill to make our own decisions, and sometimes we all choose poorly and sin against God, going against his moral law.  (Romans 3:23) Thus, separating us from God because he is perfect, and we are not. However, and here’s the good part, God is love (1 John 4:8) and he gave us a way back to him.  God became flesh.  He sent his son Jesus to earth to live a perfect life free of sin, and then die on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins.  He then conquered death when he rose back to life three days later.  (1 Corinthians 15:4)

One of the most famous verses from the Bible is John 3:16, which says…“God so love the world, that he gave his one and only son Jesus, that whoever believes in him for salvation, would not perish but have eternal life.”

Meaning after earthly death, receiving eternal life in heaven with God instead eternal punishment in hell. (Matthew 25:46) This is a free gift from God because of his love for us!  There is nothing we can do to save ourselves (Ephesians 2:8), and there’s no other way to be saved (Acts 4:12).  Salvation is found in Jesus alone.

God’s wants to have a personal relationship with each one of us, so he gave us prayer, which is just us talking with God.  If you’d like to receive this gift, just ask God.  It might sound something like this….

“Thank you, God, for speaking to my heart right now.  Thank you that you want to change my life and I know you have the power to do it.  I don’t understand it all, but I believe Jesus died for me on the cross, rose from the dead and is alive today, and I open my heart to you asking you to come into my life.  Please forgive me for my sins and make me a true child of God.  I want to serve and obey you the rest of my life until I see you face to face in heaven forever.  Thank you for hearing my prayer.  In Jesus name, amen.”

If you have made the decision to follow Jesus, your next step is to become baptized, which is simply being dunked in water as a public showing of the decision you made.  You can learn more by finding a Bible believing church where you can grow, serve, and become a part of.  There are a lot of churches out there, but it’s important to find one that believes these three foundational truths:

  1. The Bible is the complete and inerrant word of God.  We cannot add or takeaway from the Bible.
  2. There is one God who exists eternally in three persons – God the father, God the son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.  It can seem confusing but look forward to leaning more.
  3. Jesus died for our sins as a substitute for us, and we who believe in him are made right with God.  We are saved by grace through faith, not by any works we do.

To grow and remain in your new relationship with God it’s very important you find a church you enjoy where you can grow and learn to worship.  Churches have different styles and looks, but it’s important that yours never sway from absolute biblical truth.  Unfortunately, there are many false churches and religions out there (Matthew 7:15), so never stop seeking truth, and test everything with the Bible.

As I said at the start, we all make a decision to either accept or reject this gift of Jesus, and doing nothing is the same as rejecting. No matter who you are or what you’ve done, God loves you and has offered you this gift of eternal life!  Will you choose to love God?
